Tigger: Bouncing With ADHD

(Art by Leaphy)

Tigger -- from the hit movie Winnie the Pooh, is known for his airheaded confidence and high energy -- portrays a perfect example of ADHD or Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that approximately 8.7 million adults in the U.S. have. Tigger is shown to have ADHD when he bounces up and down, makes impulsive decisions, squirming, and making frequent careless mistakes. ADHD is defined as “ A chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness." Although ADHD has no cure there are ways to soothe the symptoms of it, examples include meditation, journaling, exercise, and working in a quiet space without distractions. Those who struggle with ADHD may find it difficult to focus on school/work, social relationships, and home life. Tigger's character in Winnie the Pooh serves as a relatable portrayal of the challenges faced by those with ADHD. While his happy and energetic character actions may bring joy to his friends, it also highlights the struggles one faces having these attributes.
